Porcelain vs Resin Dental Veneers

There are two types of dental veneers, Porcelain and Resin. Porcelain veneers are a thin layer of porcelain material that is fabricated in a dental lab and bonded to your tooth. Porcelain veneers provide ideal esthetics and long lasting results. Alternatively resin veneers (also referred to as Bonding), are direct resin restorations and competed chairside without the use of a dental lab. They offer instant improvements however are susceptible to chipping and staining.

The Process of Porcelain Veneers

The process of Porcelain Veneer preparation is usually completed over two separate visits. During the initial visit, minimal enamel removal, often less than ½ of a millimeter, is performed to prepare the teeth. A 3D scan of the mouth is completed using our advanced scanning techniques meaning no messy impressions for you! The dentist will then go over colour, shape and finally provide a temporary acrylic or resin veneer to protect the tooth until the completed porcelain veneer can be placed.

The final stage requires removal of the temporary veneer and cementation of the permanent porcelain one. Resulting in an immediately noticeable difference in your smile. Veneers are a long-lasting cosmetic procedure, but care is still required to get the maximum lifespan of a veneer. They typically last 8-12 years but with good care can last even longer!
